SUMMARY:Buds and Butterflies Spring Luncheon for Members and Guests
DESCRIPTION:For many years\, our spring gathering for Members and their guests has been our much-loved Victorian Tea. Since we enjoyed a tea together this past October\, we thought this spring was the perfect opportunity to try something a little different. The Buds & Butterflies Luncheon keeps the heart of that tradition—friendship\, conversation\, and shared hospitality—while giving us a fresh way to celebrate the season. \nThe Buds & Butterflies theme is centered on friendship and growth. Buds remind us that relationships often begin quietly and deepen over time\, while butterflies symbolize the joy and confidence that come from friendships nurtured year after year. This luncheon will celebrate the small but meaningful moments— shared laughter\, familiar faces\, and new connections—that help our community continue to bloom. As is our tradition\, please bring a dish to share. \nFor more information and registration\, please see the Spring Newsletter that was emailed on March 6.

SUMMARY:Members Only - Pruning Meditation: Mindful Pruning in the Japanese Garden Tradition
DESCRIPTION:In collaboration with the Japan Society of Fairfield County. \nJoin us for a unique hands-on program exploring how caring for a Japanese garden can become a calming\, focused practice. This is not a meditation class. Instead\, Japanese master gardener Mr. Umeno will demonstrate how attentive pruning encourages mindfulness through careful observation\, patience\, and responsiveness to the garden’s needs. \nThe program begins with an introduction by local landscape architect and Japanese garden designer Mr. Kurimoto\, who will share the principles of Japanese gardens and the important role of the gardener. Mr. Umeno\, from Kyoto\, Japan\, will then demonstrate his thoughtful approach to everyday garden care and the mindset behind it. \nParticipants will learn the philosophy of Japanese gardens\, watch a live pruning demonstration\, and then have the opportunity to practice these techniques in the garden under guidance. \nSpace is limited to 30 participants. Please bring a pair of small hand-pruning shears. Please see your email from New Canaan Beautification League for registration information.

SUMMARY:Life with Flowers\, Francis Palmer
DESCRIPTION:Join Frances Palmer as she brings a fresh\, inspiring perspective to the garden\, guiding us through six distinct growing periods—from the quiet magic of prevernal\, when snowdrops and hellebores first break through winter’s chill\, to the lush abundance of summer\, the rich color of fall with dahlias and Japanese anemones\, and finally to hibernal\, when we retreat indoors and savor the beauty of forced bulbs and greenhouse blooms. This engaging talk is filled with practical tips\, creative DIY projects\, and favorite floral recipes\, all woven together with reflections on patience\, resilience\, and the delightful unpredictability of nature. Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or simply love being surrounded by beauty\, Frances will leave you energized\, inspired\, and ready to see your garden—and the seasons—in a whole new way. With nearly four decades of celebrated work in ceramics\, Frances brings a unique dual lens to her craft—shaping vessels in the studio that elevate her garden’s blooms\, while cultivating extraordinary flowers outdoors that\, in turn\, inspire her art. This seamless dialogue between garden and studio is at the heart of her creative life—and it’s what makes this talk so special. Elm Street Books will be selling Life with Flowers. \nMembers see New Canaan Beautification League email for early registration information.
